Habitat of algae

Algae are found in –

·        Mud present at the bottom of water - Chara, Oscillatoria, Diatom, Chlamydomonas, Ulothrix, Cladophora, Batrachospermum, Nostoc

·        Banks of lakes and pond – Rivularia, Nostoc

·        Float in water - Diatoms and Volvox

·        Floating on the banks of ponds along with other algae - Spirogyra

·        Grow on other plants as epiphytes - Oedogonium

·        Grows on back of turtles - Protoderma

·        On the snail - Cladophora

·        Inside the Hydra viridis - Zoochlorella

·        Within the tissues of  Sphagnum ( a moss) -  Phyllobium sphagnicolum

                                                                          (Green algae, Endophyte )

·        As a parasite on the leaves of Ambrosia artemisiifolia -  Thodochytrium

                                                                           spilanthidis  (Green algae)

·        As a parasite on the leaves of Tea, Coffee and Magnolia  - Cephaleuros

                                                                                                                     virescens

·        In hot spring ( up to 85) - Cynobacteria (Blue green algae)

·        In the sea - Sargassum (Brown algae)

·        On the surface of the soil - Vaucheria

·        On the bark of trees, walls and rocks – Scytonema

·        On the snow - Chlamydomonas nivalis is known for creating red snow.

·        Inside Anthoceros - Nostoc

·        Inside a plant AzollaAnabaena azollae

·        As a symbiote in a sponge Ephydatea fluritalisCladophora

·        Trichodesmium erythrium (myxophyceae) (Blue green algae ) floats on the water ine Red Sea and gives it red color , due to which this sea is named Red Sea.
